Bonus to Living in the City

Moving to the "City" wasn't on our list of things to do this year.

But here are some things we've enjoyed in the past month of our latest adventure as city dwellers.

1.  At noon, everyday, the city REMINDS me to eat.  The siren goes off at the fire station and now this sound prompts me to drive to the nearest McDonald's, ASAP.

2.  I see Louie Vito's parents a lot more often now that I live closer to their house and use the same grocery store.  Judy Vito was one the very first people I ever met when I moved here 16 years ago.  Wow, I've lived around here for a long time.

3.  We have a friendly neighborhood.  Some neighbors have come over to introduce themselves.  We meet others by getting notices in the mail that a sex offender has moved in down the street.

4.  Street lamps come in handy.  People mow the lawn at all hours.  Even after dark. 

5.  We've been able to go over colors, quantity, and sorting skills with our five year old.  You can only use certain colored bags to throw the garbage, certain number of garbage cans, and you quickly find that it pays to sort the garbage and recycle as much as possible so you don't have to pay for more garbage.

So here are just a few of our experiences.  I may have others to share later.

Here's a new one...for us anyway.

 

I know you've heard the usual, "Mom, he's touching me."  "Mom, she's breathing on me."  "Mom, he wont stop making that noise."

Today when I sent the boys to put away their clean clothes I then heard Justin yelling...


"Mom, Mitch is looking at my underwear!"


I think we are starting to get on each others nerves.  Thankfully at this point we are only all here at the same time a couple of hours of the day, between school and baseball taking most of our time these days.  BUT school gets out soon and then what?  This could go bad fast.  I'd better make some really great summer vacation plans.  A family pass to the city pool might not be a bad idea.




(We are moved into our little rental.  We are calling it our summer cottage.  I'm still trying to locate my cables to be able to download pictures from my camera.)

What do you do when you are sick of packing to move?

Sick of your mom packing to move?

 

You make lots of water balloons to ambush your brothers & sister when they get off the bus.

(Sometimes Judd has some great ideas.  I can't wait to hear the screaming.  Is that bad?)

what goes AROUND comes AROUND

Remember when I enjoyed the moment seeing the guy on the mower on his TINY lawn?

Well, now we are moving to a little house with a TINY lawn.

AND

We only own a riding mower becuase we've always had a big lawn. 

It isn't a zero radius turn mower, so he still has on up on me, but it is a 46" mow deck that will not fit down the side yard. 

When I mentioned this to Layne his only response was,

"There's a side yard?"

Ya, it's TINY.

Thank Goodness for Lazy People

I haven't really been in the mood to laugh lately.

It is my choice, I'm trying not to blame anyone. 

But now and then someone does something that just makes you laugh and you don't even have time to realize that you aren't in the mood to laugh.

Layne and I were driving through town a couple evenings ago and we were in a part of town that was built in the 50's, I'd guess.  The houses are smaller than the older ones and they are really close together.  Needless to say, their lawns are like post stamps.  Tiny. 

So we saw this guy.  Probably in his 30's.  On a new, zero radius turn lawn mower on a lawn that MIGHT take 15 mintues to mow (front & back) with a push mower. 

But the best part (the part that Layne pointed out to me after I busted up and said something) was that he was wearing his ball cap backwards.  You know, so the wind doesn't blow it off. 

No, it wasn't windy.

and

No, his mower couldn't get enough speed to blow his cap off before he was across the yard.  He probably doesn't even completley let out the clutch before it is time to turn it around.  (Those types of mowers probably don't have a clutch, but you get what I'm tyring to say.)

So, this made me laugh harder and I was happy for that. 

I needed to laugh.

(Layne says that 'a man's got to do, what a man's got to do'.  I don't really get that, but I do get the part about being too lazy to do something.....so I guess I wont judge.  I'll just like him because he made me giggle.)
