Is it me, or is it just hard?

Why is it so hard to start up an old habit? Not any old habit. A good habit. It isn't hard to restart bad habits like biting my nails, waiting till the last minute to get things done, or yelling at the kids. But to restart a good habit is nearly torture!

For over a year I went the gym regularly. It was just part of my schedule. Then something interrupted the routine and to get back on track has been nothing but trouble.

So this week I've decided that I have to give it another shot. I've read that it takes 28 days to get a habit embedded in your routine/schedule. I hope that applies to reembedding too.

So wish me luck, and good luck to any of you that might be trying to get back into a 'good habit' of something.

Yahoo, Spring!

It's here!!

The grass is green again and the rain keeps falling. It's Spring!!!

Soon we'll have pretty flowers everywhere. I love to see the little red tips of the peonies poking up through the soil & mulch. There is nothing like the smell of the house on the first day you can throw open the windows.

Something else that yells spring to our family is Udder's & Putter's at Young's Dairy. We love miniature golf. We aren't that good, and we don't usually even keep score, but we do have a blast.

Justin is our master golfer, but last night Layne, Mitch & myself got a hole in one. Josie almost got one, except it was on the NEXT hole from the one we were playing at the moment. That pretty much sums up how her golf game went. Todd did pretty good too. Kept to par most holes.

There is something about playing a game with the family. Something about watching other families enjoying time together. Something about the smell of cut grass, a subtle hint of cow manure, and a clear sky that reminds all of us of Grandma & Grandpa's house. And last, but not least, the treat at the end. Some yummy ice cream from the dairy or a yummy slush from Sonic's.

He Made my Heart Pound!

Okay, maybe if he looked a little more like this guy it wouldn't have been so bad. But really, not so much.

I was just stepping out of the shower when Justin came into the bathroom and said, "I'm visiting with the man in the living room."

WHAT?!?

What was the first thing that came to my mind? "I could be murdered in the next 10 seconds and I don't even look good!"

I threw on a pair of sweats and a long sleeved t-shirt. Yes, that is ALL I had on. Grabbed a comb and made one pass down the middle of my head and ran out to the living room. On my way there I saw out the window the telephone man walking off the front porch. I yelled out the door that I was sorry, I was in the shower. He said that he just wanted to tell me that he got our phone problems worked out.

Yes, Justin and I had a heart to heart about not opening the door when I'm in the shower.

How long have you been married? 14.5 years.

How long did you date? Lets see...8 months

How old is he? 39 years old! I've already been warned about "40" birthday parties. He never did say anything about a 39.5 year old party though.

Who eats more sweets? Layne eats more desserts & snacks than I do, but he doesn't really love sweet, sweet things. Know what I mean? For example he loves graham crackers & milk. He is also a pie, cake, cookie fan. I'm not so much. Give me some leftovers from dinner & I'm pumped.

Who said I love you first? Layne did.

Who is taller? Have you seen us? Layne definitely.

Who can sing better? Well, we are both able to carry a tune. Layne is awesome when he acually knows the right words.

Who is smarter? I'm going to have to give Layne the prize for this one, although, I'm not an idiot.

Who does the laundry? I do the laundry and as long as I get it folded while it is still warm it will get done in the same day. If it gets left in the dryer and gets cold it might stay there a day or two.

Who pays the bills? I do. I love bookwork! No kidding here.

Who sleeps on the right side of the bed? I do. I can't think of a reason why.

Who mows the lawn? That is all Layne! It is his only source of any sort of tractor in his life right now. I can't take that away from my Idaho man.

Who cooks dinner? Me. I love to cook. I love all the cutting, chopping, stiring, reading cook books, and most of all, presenting the food. We all know it is the presentation that counts.

Who drives? Layne drives. He claims I scare him. I've never given him any reason to though.

Who is more stubborn? Both of us.

Who kissed who first? This is still up for debate, but since I'm the one typing I'll say he kissed me first.

Who asked who out first? He asked me out the day after Christmas of 2002.

Who proposed? Layne asked me to marry him.

Who wears the pants? Layne thinks he wears the pants, but I've got the all important talent of making everything seem to be his idea. Oh yes, you bet I use it.

One Year Older....

Here is how it started, and before I start I must say that on any other day some of this might have made me crazy, but it was all good.
Many years ago I was given a very old piano from a dear friend. We are the fourth family to own it and it still looks and plays beautifully. Its only problem is that long ago the bench was worn out and by the time we got the piano it didn't exist. So Layne got me a beautiful new piano bench that matched very nice. Well, as he was attaching the legs, some how it fell from his work bench onto the concrete floor. He came into the kitchen with a sick look on his face. He was so upset. But, one trip to Lowes (and because he is handy) he made it all better. This was on Friday night. Then Saturday morning, before we were up, our two youngest, Mitch(7) & Judd(3), got up and wanted to check it out (at this point I had already convinced Layne to give it to me since I knew about 'the problem') and they didn't know how to shut the lid after the latch caught to keep it up. So they laid on it to shut it. Now the hinges were broken and the lid was hanging off. One more trip to Lowes fixed that problem too.
Yesterday was wonderful. Layne and I went shopping and had lunch in Columbus at my favorite eatery, Noodles. YUMM-O! Then we went shopping and had a fun day together. When we got home the kids had the entire house clean as a whistle and laundry done too!
Today, my real birthday day, started out really nice. I opened gifts from the kids and family, had breakfast, and somehow we got off to early morning church meetings, almost on time. I popped into Primary for closing exercises because Mitch had a talk. As soon as I sat down in there Judd was on my lab whining. Before I could ask him what was wrong he and I had puke all over us. Thankfully only a little on the floor. So, I gathered up the rest of the family and we headed home to clean up.
While Judd and I were cleaning up Layne decided to go right past lunch and head to dessert, my birthday banana splits (because I don't like cake). They were perfect & yummy and just what I needed.
So, I've spent the day enjoying beautiful music, eating banana splits, doing sudoku puzzles, and enjoying all my other gifts. What a perfect day!
