'the farm'.
(Keep your ideas coming for the naming of the land contest.
I've liked what you've come up with so far.)
So last night we had the tree's age estimated.
The big one that the boys were hugging in my last post is approximately
140
years old.
We also measured two others.
One was around
120 years
and the other
80 years old.
Isn't that amazing? Obviously we didn't check out all the trees, but these were the ones that we (or maybe it was just me) were curious about.
We learned that the 140 year old tree should produce around 2000 + acorns this year. We also learned that it could live till it is between 400 - 900 years old. Cool.
On a completely different subject
This is just proof that I wasn't kidding when I saidI DON'T MAKES PIES!
I had some left over pie dough so I thought I'd hurry and make Layne another pie.
Well, after about 10 minutes of wondering why the timer on the oven kept going off, I started to smell a burning pie crust.......
I think I have baking ADD. I just get sidetracked too easily.

Okay yeah, don't let Layne cut down those trees. That is awsome that they are so old. So maybe "Old Oak Place" wouldn't be such a bad name after all.
If you love the oaks and are kind of obsessed with them then I think you should for sure have oak in the name of your farm. Just please don't call it "Shady Oaks" or anything like that. That just makes me think of an apartment complex built in the 70's that is now run-down and is the center of a drug ring in L.A. or something.
Sorry about pie crust - at least you try to make pies. I tried once and that was enough for me. Maybe I'll try again - in a few years.
My dad's favorite saying is "brown she's cooking, black she's done"...so you got it done Cassie!
You're still the best cook in my book.
Grandma Fern could sympathize with you on the crust. She was baking for a church function once, and had to do it 3 times to get 2 that weren't burned. That one does look unedible, however!
(do keep it up, though. Your work is impressive)
that baby is b-lack. dang.
About the burnt pie crust, my dad always told mom those were burnt offerings, so your family must feel really special...godlike even??? hehe
Ok, name for the place, Wise Old Oak Acres, not too catchy but thought I'd throw it out there.
So mom's comment reminded me of me! One time I was out at her house and she had pulled out a "frozen" pumpkin pie that she wanted to bake. Well, I was doing hair and told her I would be in charge of the pie since I would be in the kitchen for many hours! So she went off to Simmons' and I burnt the first one...tossed it. Found another one in the freezer, burnt that one...tossed it. I then ran down to "ADL" and bought another one, pulled that sucker out of the oven seconds after the buzzer went off and it turned out fine! (ps. pies are expensive! esp at adl in mudlake!)
Ok how about something simple like "Old Oaks" Sounds like a great place to me! (may sound a bit like an old folks home though.)
Hey, when did you go back to screening your commments???
After a period of time...I think it is 14 days or something...it sends them for me to approve. That way if I've already added a new post I don't miss later comments.
Dang....and I thought you could cook! What happened there girllllie?
