Time to Remember Series

Today it's about Todd and Baseball

Todd couldn't have asked for a more fun senior year in baseball.  They were undefeated (minus two games they played in a tournament in Kentucky).  They didn't end up winning state, but they sure had a great regular season.  The day we were driving to Provo, Utah to drop Todd of at the MTC (Missionary Training Center) he asked everyone in the van what moment in their lives they would love to repeat.  Not redo, repeat.  We had to all give it some thought.  Not him.  His was the win over the Bellefontaine Chieftains, on April 23, 2015.  It was a 'walk-off double' and Todd got that last hit and won the game.  Dream game?  For Sure!  Here is the picture that was in the paper the next day.  Look at those stats on the score board!!  Nail biter, for sure.



 

Most of these boys on the team had played baseball together or against each other for most of their lives and they made a great team.  I think all of us parents had as hard of a time realizing the end had come, as the boys did.  We had spent a lot of time with each other through the years in those stands, cheering on our boys.

CBC Recognition (February 20, 2015)

These pictures are from senior night.

I got a yellow rose and Layne got to throw the ball from the pichers mound to Todd.

This was a tough night for Layne.  He was really going to miss this team and watching Todd play ball, but he was also nervous about his pitch.  Never fear.  His ball went right over the plate.  I wouldn't expect anything less. 

He and Todd have a close relationship and this game has always been such an important part of "them". 

This is one of three games in Kentucky.  The team was invited to go down and play in a two day tournament.  They won the first game and bombed the last two, but it was a ton of fun.  My parents flew into Ohio and drove down with us.  It was such a fun weekend.  I had pneumonia, and I think my dad was stressed to the max about catching it from me (he gets pneumonia a lot), but I did my best to keep my coughs under a blanket and didn't get him sick. 

This was an Astroturf field and when they'd slide, it was like they could go for days.  Pretty cool to watch.

It is so nice that this has finally happened.

Todd finished his Eagle quite a while ago, but it seemed like one thing after another kept getting in the way to finalize the whole process. 

Anyone who has ever had to work with "the scout office" knows that anything could and probably will happen.  The day Layne heard me use the word 'incompitent' more than once over the phone he knew it was time for him to step in.

 

But, that is all behind us, and we had such a wonderful evening with friends and family.

Thank you to everyone that helped in anyway.  From day one to the court of honor.  Todd (and Layne & I) couldn't have done it without you.

 

Todd, who doesn't really like recognition type moments, wanted it short & sweet.  And that it was.

 

These are a few letters of recognition from Ohio's Governor Kasich, Ohio Congressman Jim Jordan, a couple of commissioners from the BSA, the President of the USA, and a nice letter from the

General Young Men Presidency

of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.

 

 

 

He even gave a very nice acceptance speech.

 

 



 

Then we had some yummy, and super duper darling refreshments.

 

We had some of Todd's favorites...

Now, lets talk about the eagle cupcake toppers.

I handed over the ingredients and my friend Beth whipped them out in a flash.

I can't look at these without smiling.  They just make me happy.

I'm thinking these will have to make an appearance at the 4th of July party.

(Not these ones, but some just like them.)

 

My friend Becky is my go-to when I want anything with pretty frosting. 

She made the cupcakes so very very pretty and totally delish.

 

 

 

 

When we all got home last night I noticed that Todd walked in with a big smile on his face.

He had a good time, and that made me the happiest.

And Then We Were Done

For the past three months we have gone to a baseball game every night of the week (except for Sunday).  This past weekend we wrapped up Justin & Todd's seasons.  This made for a lot of running from town to town to get them where they needed to be, but they had some great games and it was fun.

Mitch set the mood a couple weeks ago on a great season and tournament showing, and Justin & Todd's teams followed suit.

Todd's team came in 5th!

Not bad at all for a first year Pony League Team.

Todd plays a mean Short and had a great batting year. 

He's at a level that they are playing for real now, and it is a lot of fun to watch.  They get to wear steel cleats this year.  I like hearing them hit the pavement.  Click, click, click....

Justin has waited & waited for his chance to be on a baseball team.  This year was his year and he loved every minute of it.

His team had an undefeated season and played their little hearts out at the tournaments.

Sadly, he had to miss the actual championship game because it was played on the Sabbath.  And to add to his pain, he ended up being really sick that day too. 

Perfect form!  He's got awesome Big Brother Coaches.

Ever since his coach dropped off his trophy Monday morning he hasn't put it down.  I'm not kidding.  He has it with him at all times.  I hope it doesn't get broken.  He just loves it.  He keeps saying that he is sad that he didn't get a picture with his trophy and his team, but we have a team party on Friday so we'll try to get one then.

2010 was a great ball season for the

Coleman boys!  Can't wait for next year.
